In a previous role, I worked for national DIY retailer B&Q. I’ve often found that people assume you are pigeonholed into one role when you work for a large organisation, but I have to say, that was definitely not the case in my experience. Although I had a unique specialism as the Talent Attraction Advisor at B&Q, I partnered with our internal communications and corporate communications teams to ensure consistency with messaging internally and externally. We worked together on content plans, events and campaigns, utilising our skills and learning from one another. This experience not only equipped me with a varied background and knowledge bank as I joined Caburn Hope, but it also gave me a great understanding of actually being the client.
I know first hand how important it is to nurture relationships with clients; never leave a client in the dark, always manage expectations and, most importantly, be honest. As the client, you’re likely to be managing internal stakeholders; and, in my experience, these stakeholders are often in different teams, different functions and sometimes different operating companies. This is something I’m very conscious of now, being on the other side as an account manager. Being a super-organised individual is what allows me to keep my clients in the loop, meaning they can keep their stakeholders informed and we have confidence in delivering a project no matter how big or small.
Moving to the agency side was an easy decision for me because of the Caburn Hope team. Everyone has been incredibly supportive of my progression in my first few months here. They’ve cheered me on at each milestone and made me laugh every day. They’ve shown me the importance of putting your all into delivering the best results for the client, but to also enjoy the journey of each project, and make sure the client enjoys it too. We work on very exciting campaigns, and some have the potential to really change employees’ lives – it’s incredible.
Looking forward, I instantly smile when I think about my future at Caburn Hope. I hope in the next year I will continue to build great relationships with my clients across the globe and deliver projects I am proud to put my name to. I have no doubts that the laughter will continue, as will the support and encouragement from all of the fantastic people I get to work with every day.
